SMERAS Cox'n raises TSF funds

SMERAS ( submarine escape, rescue, abandonment and survival) cox'n Daryn Mathieson recently completed the Mull of Kyntyre 10k to raise funds for TSF.

Daryn raised a magnificent £300 for TSF, and we would like to say a massive congratulations and well done from everyone at the Submarine Family.

Daryn invited TSF along to SMERAS to receive the donation. We were able to enter the pool and experience first hand this truly amazing training facility.

SMERAS is capable of simulating a variety of sea states and weather conditions to ensure Royal Navy Submariners are trainied to the highest levels in submarine escape and sea survival.

The facility n HMNB Clyde ( the home of the RN submarine service) cost £34 million pounds to design, produce and build and was officially opened by HRH Prine William, Commodore-in-chief submarines HRH Prince William opens £34m submarine training facility in Clyde (mod.uk)

John Thomson, Royal Navy command assistant head of infrastructure, added, “The Royal Navy was proud to provide the funding for this excellent facility delivered by DIO and their contractors. The purpose-built SMERAS training facility at HMNB Clyde provides a critical and world leading experiential training facility for the Royal Navy and replaces the Submarine Escape Training Tank at Fort Blockhouse, Gosport.

“The facility provides class specific high-fidelity escape towers and escape compartments, a training pool capable of replicating the environmental conditions that submarine escapes may need to be carried out in and supporting classrooms, offices, workshops, plant rooms and changing areas. SMERAS is a key element in the development of HM Naval Base Clyde as the Royal Navy Submarine Centre of Specialisation and base port for all UK submarines.”
